NYC Black Birders Week Trip (BIPOC Focused Trip)

$20.00

You're invited to join the NYC Plover Project and The Garden by the Bay for the 3rd Annual Rockaway's Black Birders Week Celebration on Saturday, May 30th! We have a fun day of free programming and activities planned for all ages. Note that there are limited spots on the bus so reserve yours today.

ICB will leave Philly around 7am via a mini coach bus. We will start the day at 10:00 am with a guided bird walk led by birders SamSam Graves and Indigo Goodson-Fields at the Arverne East Nature Preserve, starting at Beach 56th Place and the Rockaway Beach Boardwalk. There we may see a number of nesting shorebird like Piping Plover, American Oystercatcher, Black Skimmer, Gulls, as well as a number of sandpipers.

We'll then spend an afternoon at The Garden doing nature-based activities such as Nature Journaling, Herbal Botanicals Making, Yoga, Flower Pot Painting, Creating your own Plover Chick, and a facilitated Discussion, from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm with lunch catered by La Cevicheria. Depending on sentiment. ICB folks may continue birding for some portion of that afternoon block before boarding the bus to return to Philly (by 7pm we hope with traffic)

Binoculars will be available to borrow for those attending with ICB. The length of the bird walk will be approximately 1 mile and ADA accessible. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking. Light refreshments and lunch will be provided.

This event is free, open to all ages and family-friendly. We do encourage folks who are not of BIPOC descent to please allow for others to register first. If there are remainign seats we will post a communication via socials. If you'd like to be on the waiting list please DM us.

Please share with a friend, family member, or neighbor who might be interested in learning more about Rockaway's beautiful nature and biodiversity. See here for last year's photo album: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCgD8s for a preview of what's in store.
